At DeenPost, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use our Islamic companion services, including:

DeenPost Mobile Application (available on iOS and Android)

By using DeenPost, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. This Privacy Policy applies to all visitors, users, and others who access or use our services.

Interpretation and Definitions

Interpretation

The words of which the initial letter is capitalized have meanings defined under the following conditions. The following definitions shall have the same meaning regardless of whether they appear in singular or in plural.

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:

Account means a unique account created for you to access our Service or parts of our Service.
Affiliate means an entity that controls, is controlled by or is under common control with a party, where “control” means ownership of 50% or more of the shares, equity interest or other securities entitled to vote for election of directors or other managing authority.
Application (or App) refers to DeenPost, the mobile software program provided by the Company, available on iOS and Android platforms.
Company (referred to as either “the Company”, “We”, “Us” or “Our” in this Agreement) refers to DeenPost.
Cookies are small files that are placed on your computer, mobile device or any other device by a website, containing the details of your browsing history on that website among its many uses.
Country refers to New South Wales, Australia.
Device means any device that can access the Service such as a computer, a cellphone, or a digital tablet.
Personal Data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
Service refers to the Website and/or the Application, depending on how you access DeenPost.
Service Provider means any natural or legal person who processes the data on behalf of the Company.
Usage Data refers to data collected automatically, either generated by the use of the Service or from the Service infrastructure itself.
Website refers to DeenPost, accessible from https://www.deenpost.com.
You means the individual accessing or using the Service, or the company, or other legal entity on behalf of which such individual is accessing or using the Service, as applicable.

Information We Collect

Personal Data

While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to:

Usage Data

Location Information (Mobile App)

We request permission to access your device location in order to provide:

Accurate prayer times based on your geographical position using the adhan calculation library and the Al-Adhan API as a backup
Qibla direction using your coordinates to calculate the bearing toward the Kaaba in Makkah
Reverse geocoding to display your current city and region name

Location data is processed locally on your device and is not stored on our servers. Your coordinates are used at runtime only and are not persisted or transmitted to any third party beyond the prayer time API when the local calculation needs verification.

Important: If you deny location access, you can still manually set your location in the app to use prayer time features.

Device Sensor Data (Mobile App)

We access your device’s compass/magnetometer sensor to provide the Qibla Finder feature. This heading data is used in real-time only and is never stored or transmitted.

Notification Permissions (Mobile App)

We request permission to send notifications for:

Prayer time reminders — individually configurable for each of the five daily prayers (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) with optional adhan sound
Actionable prayer notifications — allowing you to mark prayers as “Prayed” or “Missed” directly from the notification
Daily Quran verse — scheduled delivery of the verse of the day
Daily Hadith — scheduled delivery of the hadith of the day
Daily Quiz reminder — customizable time and day-of-week scheduling
Friday (Jumu’ah) prayer reminder — special weekly notification with configurable advance notice

Notification data is handled entirely on your device and is not stored or shared. You may disable all notifications or individual notification types at any time through your device settings or within the app preferences.

AI Chat Conversations (Mobile App)

When you use the AI Chat (Islamic Advisor) feature, your messages are:

Sent to our secure backend proxy at deenpost.com/api/chat, which forwards them to OpenAI’s API for processing
Not stored on our servers — the backend acts as a stateless proxy
Stored locally on your device — up to 10 recent chat sessions are saved in local storage for your convenience
Subject to OpenAI’s usage policies on the server side

We do not read, log, or retain the content of your AI conversations on our backend.

Onboarding Preferences (Mobile App)

During the app onboarding process, we collect the following preferences which are stored locally on your device only:

User type (Muslim or non-Muslim / learning about Islam)
Fiqh/Madhab preference (Hanafi or Shafi’i) for prayer time calculations
Daily spiritual goals
Quran display preference (Arabic script style)
Notification and location access consent choices

Usage Data

Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service.

For Website users, Usage Data may include:

Your Device’s Internet Protocol address (IP address)
Browser type and version
The pages of our Service that you visit
The time and date of your visit
The time spent on those pages
Unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data

For Mobile App users, Usage Data may include:

Prayer tracking history (prayed/missed status per prayer per day)
Quran reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, and personal notes
Quiz scores, streaks, and answer history
App usage patterns and feature interactions
Device model and operating system version
Mobile device unique ID

All mobile app usage data is stored exclusively on your device using AsyncStorage and is never transmitted to our servers.

We collect device-specific data, including:

Device model
Operating system version
App version
Browser type (for website)

This information is used solely to improve compatibility and performance across different devices and platforms.

Tracking Technologies and Cookies (Website)

We use Cookies and similar tracking technologies to track the activity on our Website and store certain information. Tracking technologies used are beacons, tags, and scripts to collect and track information and to improve and analyze our Service.

To send Islamic reminders and notifications for prayer times (with optional adhan sound), daily Quran verses, daily hadith, quiz reminders, and Friday prayer notifications
To enable AI-powered Islamic guidance through our secure chat feature powered by OpenAI GPT-4o
To provide Quran reading features including multi-translation support (40+ translations across 20+ languages), audio recitation, bookmarks, highlights, and personal notes
To track your spiritual progress including prayer tracking with streaks, quiz performance, and Quran reading progress
To personalize your experience with customized content based on your madhab preference, language, and daily goals
To manage your Account and provide access to different functionalities of the Service
To contact you by email, push notifications, or other forms of electronic communication regarding updates, security notices, or informative communications
To provide you with news, special offers, and general information about our services
To manage your requests and attend to your inquiries
For business transfers in connection with a merger, sale of assets, or acquisition
For other purposes such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, and improving our Service

We may share your personal information in the following situations:

With AI Service Provider (OpenAI): When you use the AI Chat feature, your conversation messages are forwarded through our secure proxy to OpenAI for processing. No other personal data is shared with OpenAI.
With Service Providers: To monitor and analyze the use of our Service, to contact you, or to provide specific functionalities.
For business transfers: In connection with any merger, sale of Company assets, financing, or acquisition.
With Affiliates: We may share your information with our affiliates, who will honor this Privacy Policy.
With business partners: To offer you certain products, services, or promotions.
With your consent: We may disclose your personal information for any other purpose with your consent.

Data Storage and Security

Your privacy is a top priority. We take appropriate security measures to protect your data:

Mobile app data is stored locally on your device — prayer history, Quran bookmarks/highlights/notes, quiz scores, chat history, and all preferences are kept in device-local AsyncStorage and are never uploaded to our servers
AI chat messages are transmitted securely through our backend proxy using HTTPS encryption and are not logged or retained on our servers
API keys are never exposed to clients — all sensitive credentials (such as the OpenAI API key) are stored securely on the server side and never included in the app bundle
Cloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest
We use industry-standard security protocols
Access to data is strictly limited and monitored
We retain your information only as long as needed to deliver our services or comply with legal obligations

Security Note: While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

Retention of Your Personal Data

The Company will retain your Personal Data only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Data to the extent necessary to:

Comply with our legal obligations
Resolve disputes
Enforce our legal agreements and policies

Usage Data is generally retained for a shorter period of time, except when used to strengthen security or improve functionality.

Mobile app data (prayer history, bookmarks, quiz scores, chat sessions) is retained on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the app. You can clear all app data at any time from Settings within the app.

Transfer of Your Personal Data

Your information, including Personal Data, is processed at the Company’s operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located. This means that this information may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ.

When you use the AI Chat feature, your messages are processed through our secure backend hosted on Cloudflare and forwarded to OpenAI’s servers, which may be located in the United States.

Your consent to this Privacy Policy followed by your submission of such information represents your agreement to that transfer.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

Access and review your personal information
Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
Delete your account and associated data
Opt out of certain notifications or data collection
Export your data in a portable format

DeenPost is suitable for users of all ages, including children learning about Islam. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verified parental consent.

If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

If we need to rely on consent as a legal basis for processing your information and your country requires consent from a parent, we may require your parent’s consent before we collect and use that information.

App Permissions (Mobile App)

DeenPost may request the following device permissions to function properly:

You will be prompted to grant these permissions, and you may manage them anytime through your device settings.

Links to Other Websites

Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

Disclosure of Your Personal Data

Business Transactions

If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.

Law Enforcement
